Ch Teyssier Chateau LaForge St Emillion Grand Cru
Winnery : Chateau Teyssier
Region : Bordeaux
Bin : 322, Bottle : 750 ML
Vintage : 2007 Bottle Price : $105.00
The estate was purchased in 1998 from the daughter of the local blacksmith – hence the name – the initial vineyard was primarily based on a gravel outcrop, assembled over the generations with land appropriated in lieu of unpaid bills. Additional vineyards have been purchased on both sandy and clay over limestone soils hugging the town of Saint Émilion, and now the six-hectare vineyard uniquely draws together the three terroirs of the Appellation. Around 90% of the vineyard is composed of old-vine Merlot with the rest being Cabernet Franc. Cropping levels are low and the grapes are harvested by hand and, after double-triage, are vinified in modern oak vats with consistent lees suspension during ageing to enhance the body of the wine. The result is a substantial wine with earthy aromas and flavors of black cherry and plum with smoky, herbal notes. Paired with steak or lamb.

Quintarelli Alzero

Region : Veneto
Bin : 325, Bottle : 750 ML
Vintage : 2005 Bottle Price : $800.00
There are very few people as revered in the wine world as the legendary Giuseppe Quintarelli, who, over a 60+ year career, embodied both quality and respect for tradition in his unique, at times almost mythical, approach to making wine. Alzero is one of those mythical wines, only made in the best years, from 30-year old vines, with production usually limited to less than 300 cases. It is a blend of 40% each Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Merlot, using the same appassimento method of partially air-drying grapes on traditional straw mats for 60-100 days as is used to make his famous Amarone della Valpolicella. The wine was aged for up to three years in French-oak barrique, racked, then aged a further four years in large Slavonian-oak barrels. Typically a powerful wine, this vintage demonstrates more elegance, with exceptional balance and sophistication. Rich, complex aromas and flavours of sweet dried berries, cassis, figs, cocoa, mint, and spices. A wine of contemplation – pair with mushroom risotto, grilled and braised meat dishes.
